The Black Sheep By:Yvonne Collins and Sandy Rideout

Kendra has had it!  Her parents have only ever cared about themselves and training her mind.  She has never been able to just do fun things that other kids get to do like swimming lessons and parties.  She had music lessons and math camp and going to various art museums with her mother (otherwise known as Torture Day).  She is just so picked on!!.  Then the straw that broke the camel's back, they fired her nanny, Rosa, the only person that truly knew Kendra and let her be a child.  So in her fit of anger she wrote a letter to Black Sheep the TV show and begged to be put on the show.

Fame is not all it seems when she opens the door to a "too happy" producer and two cameramen.  She is whisked off to California to live with an actual family. She is going to have siblings and do all the fun things there are for kids.  Her new family, the Mulligan's, couldn't be more different.  First she has to share a room with a 10 year old, meals are eaten together with Everyone, and they have a ferret that likes to steal her stuff.  The whole family is involved in the sea otter rescue at the local aquarium and Kendra is expected to participate.  Things can only get better when Kendra finds a cause and a guy worth fighting for.....

This was a cute YA romance.  Of course everything can and will go wrong and I always enjoy the end of the story when everything is made right and every ones feelings are taken care of.  This story didn't disappoint. Girl likes boy, girl does stupid things hoping boy will like girl, girls misreads boy, everything blows up and hopefully girls can make it better (only in this story the everything blows up is taken on a public, national level).

Match Me If You Can By: Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Annabelle has just taken over the matchmaking service that her grandmother left for her.  She figures that she needs one great client to set her business up for success.  She sets up a ten minute appointment with her best friends-husbands-sports agent, Heath Champion.  Of course the morning of her appointment, she is running late, spills on her new suit and the receptionist doesn't want to let her in to see Heath.  She bully's her way in and after a trial set up she has her new client, Chicago's hottest bachelor.  Through their many matches she sets up they get to know each other and become friends.
Heath finds out that she is in good with some of Chicago's influential sports people and uses her friendship to try and get in good with them.   He goes with her to a toddler's birthday party that leads to a weekend retreat to a lake where "things" happen.
I actually loved this book.  The relationship between Heath and Annabelle is great.  They actually know each other inside and out and they way they banter is adorable.  The women in this story are successful in their own ways and stand by each other.  The men are all about their sports careers but still love their wives.  There is heart, humor and romance.

Sirensong By: Jenna Black

Dana is invited by Queen Titania to be presented at Court. She thinks that there is no way she is going to go to Faery, seeing as how everyone wants her dead. But her dad surprises her by saying that she has to go.

Dana, her dad, Finn (bodyguard), Keane (Finn's son and Dana's self defense teacher), Ethan (boyfriend) and Kimber (best friend and Ethan's sister) all head out with Prince Henry, Titania's son. Along the way Dana sees just how different Faery is and how things work. Of course they are also ambushed and she is in danger ... until the Erlking comes to the rescue. Things settle down and they make it to the castle and just when you think it will be an easy vacation....

Well I don't want to give it all away...

I love this series, I love all things Fae. But I really like how the author incorporates Avalon in the story and it has become a comfortable little world for the reader. The characters are a lot of fun, with Keane and Ethan hating each other and constantly fighting. I also really like Dana and Kimber. Kimber is the perfect first friend for Dana because she is always forgiving and trying to boost Dana's mood and spirits. One of my favorite characters is the Erlking . I don't know why but I really like this deceiving faery. He and Dana have a different relationship then with any other faery and the Erlking . She isn't completely terrified of him and actually challenges him sometimes he acts as though it is refreshing instead of just annoying. One person I didn't like to hear about is the mom. I know, not nice, but she was more into her alcohol then her daughter for most of the series. I understand that there are a lot of people like that and that is part of the reason Dana was as strong as she is. I just felt sorry for Dana every time the mom involved in the story. I do like that Dana had the strength to be the adult in the relationship even though she was so young, definitely a strong character to look up to.

Overall great book, and great series!

Fairy Bad Day By Amanda Ashby

Emma goes too Burtonwood Academy, a school for people gifted with the sight (ability to see demons, goblins, dragons, etc.)  Emma's mom was an amazing dragon hunter and Emma has sought after that position  since her mother's death five years ago.  When the assignments are made at the beginning of her sophomore year she finds that she is to be a .....  fairy slayer??  Is there such a thing?

She spends the next few weeks hating Curtis, the boy that is assigned to be the dragon slayer.  All that does is gets her into trouble with the principle at school and she manages to become the laughing stock of the school when she is caught in an explosion at the mall while hunting fairies.  To make matters worse she is now paired up with Curtis on an assignment and they now have to teach each other about their slaying abilities.

Fairies are hard to deal with, not that they are evil but those little flying monsters make fun of her clothes, throw candy at her and just make her life miserable, plus there is no known way to kill them.
Trouble finds her on campus but she is the only one  that can see it.  No one believes that this creature exists and it is up to her to save the world.

I loved this book.  The fairies were adorable and so funny.  I liked all of her friends, Curtis was great as a friend/love interest/slayer. Loni is her best friend and is a whiz with technology.  Then there was Tyler who loves to gamble and has a five-legged cockroach as a pet. The only thing I wish was different is the ages of Emma and her friends, they were only fifteen years old.  It would have been nice if they were 17-18 years old.

Centauriad #1 Daughter of the Centaurs By K.K. Ross

Malora has lived in the Settlement with her mother, a healer, and father a horse trainer.  One day all of the men are attacked and killed by a winged species called leatherwings.  She takes over as horse trainer in her fathers absence.  The leatherwings now having tasted humans attack the village and Malora's mother sends her out to save her.  She survives in the wilderness with her horse and others that have joined her to become a herd.  One day in a storm her herd is trapped in a box canyon and captured by Centaurs to be taken to their city.

Malora is under the protection of Orion, son of the head centaur and a scent maker (alchemist) by trade.  She is adopted by the family as a "pet", taught to read and write, dressed in luxury and also encouraged to find a trade of her own.  As the only human in known existence she feels out of place while surrounded by luxury.  The only time she feels like her self is when she sneaks out of town to hunt in the wilderness.

This story is all about a girl trying to find her way in the world.  The characters are all very developed and very lovable.  There are different species in this world, including a cat like species that remind Malora of Puss In Boots.   This is a great book in the way that I couldn't put the book down.  There is really no romance but I didn't really mind because there was always something going on and the author was always describing people, events or the overall landscape.  It looks like this is the first book of a series because there are a lot of unfinished stories.  I will definitely be looking forward to more.

Blood By: K.J. Wignall

This story is told from Will's point of view.  Will is a vampire, he prefers undead, he was turned in the year 1256 and lives off and on in a crypt under the church where he was buried.  When he wakes from his latest 20 year slumber everything changes.  He meets people that know more about him than they should and he is guided along by the journal of a dead man and 7 spirits.  Along the way he meets Eloise and knows that she is a part of his destiny. She isn't terrified of him when she is told that he is a vampire and actually is okay with staying in his crypt. Together they work to find the person that bit Will and try to connect him with names that keep appearing in the journal and ancient texts.
It was hard for me to get into the book at first because it jumps around from present time to memories in his past (although it is easy to tell the past from present because the past is in italics). Once he and Eloise are working together the story got pretty good.
The characters were a little to easy going for my taste.  No one really freaked out or had a hard time with the situations they were in.  At one point in what I would consider a near death experience, a character just enthusiastically hollered and compared the rush to bungee jumping.  Personally I would have cried like a baby, succumbed to hiccups, fainted or worse. There is romance in terms of an attraction but don't expect more then likes....
This is book one of a series so the story doesn't end with this book and it is a pretty good introduction to the other books.  I think I will be waiting for the rest of the books are released to see how this story ends.

Wolfsbane By Andrea Cremer

I loved this book.  I am definitely a sucker for all things "were"
Calla is the Alpha female of her pack and this story starts with her just after being taken by the searchers with Shay.  In this story we get to learn all about the Searchers and we meet a few very fun, human characters.  Calla and Shay are a part of a bigger picture to save the Guardians and put the world right after all the things the Keepers have been up to.  Calla is still in the middle of her love triangle and both boys have very good qualities that any good Alpha female should be looking for.  I know it made me take a double look at who I should be rooting for. Shay is what the Searchers and Keepers call the Scion.  Basically he is the key that either side needs control of to get what they want.  His skills are definitely better in this story and he didn't feel like just dead weight being pulled along by Calla.  I think that this was a great second book in the series and I can't wait for the next book to come out in.....January 2012.

Nightshade By: Andrea Cremer

Calla is the Alpha female for her pack and she has always known that she will be mated with Ren, Alpha male of his pack.  She is ok with this and life moves on.... until she runs into a human named Shay while on her patrols.  Something connects these two in a way she has never felt before.  Together they stubble on secrets that will unravel the life she always thought she new.
There is a love triangle and at the moment I like both boys.  Ren was a little overbearing and a little high-and-mighty but at the same time he honestly loves Calla.  I really like him but I don't know if I think he is right for her or if I just like an alpha personality.  Shay is the new kid in town... he doesn't know exactly how things work so he just lives life and slowly changes things around him to fit his personality.  He doesn't come across as strong or protective in this book, though he is smart.
Overall I like the story and I can't wait for the next book because this has a cliffhanger ending!!

Wings By: Aprilynne Pike

Laurel has always been a little different from the people around her. She was left on the doorsteps of her parents when she was a baby and luckily they took her in and raised her as their own. In high school she develops a lump on her back that one day blooms into a very beautiful, very large flower. With the help of her friend David she slowly starts to piece together what she is.
Through the story she meets Tamani, a fairy guard that has been watching over her and protecting her in the background her entire life. He helps her understand life as a fairy and introduces her to others like her.
Things don't stay safe and fun for long when Trolls attack.
I loved this book. It took fairies and made them more of the top of the food chain in the plant kingdom, much as humans are for the animal kingdom. Aprilynne also let us see the four fairy kingdoms and instead of seely or unseely they are broken up into the seasons and each has a specific job or special abilities.
This is the first book in a series of four books.

London's Quest By L.A. Hilden

London accidently gets thrown back in time about 150 years. There she meets Declan Devinn. He was a spy in the past for the English government and now he is trying to open a gentlemen's club to support his 5 siblings. When London arrives in a hidden closet of his parlor he is instantly attracted to her and offers her a room at his home. London is automatically accepted by his brother's and sisters and falls in love with Declan. She is arrested and thrown into jail for treason and later is kidnapped by a traitor to the Crown.
You get to see both London and Declan's sides to this story, plus a couple of the supporting characters which I love. So much is going on in the background while London is being held and it was nice to have the other points of view to tell the whole story. It was easy to follow the changes in view as well. I really enjoy time travel books and this one didn't disapoint.

The Art of Racing in the Rain By: Garth Stein

Meet Enzo.  He is a philosopher with a nearly human soul and an obsession with opposable thumbs.  He is a yellow lab that has educated himself by watching television all day and by listening closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up and coming race car driver.

I was told to read this book by a dear friend.  Honestly I didn't want to read it at first.  A book about a dog isn't my usual type of story.  While at WalMart one day I saw it and decided to take a closer look.   I sat in the book section and read the first chapter, put it back and couldn't understand why anyone would read that book.  **** SPOILER ALERT*****  the first chapter is at the end of Enzo's life and he is trying to convince Denny to put him down.  It was so sad!!!  ****END SPOLIER****  The problem was this book was really written well and I couldn't get the story out of my head.  I just had to finish it and see what was going to happen next.  So, I went back to WalMart and bought the book.

This story takes place completely from Enzo's pont of view from the time he can remember as a puppy, meeting Denny, Denny getting married and having a child.  Because his owner, Denny, is a race car driver Enzo loves racing.  Most of how he sees the world can be tied to a racing term or way of driving.  This story definately pulls at your heartstrings.  Don't worry too much, you won't be sitting there crying the whole time, this dog is definately hilarious!!  I was laughing through most of the book.  Garth Stein did a great job with the thoughts of this dog. I could actually picture a lab watching TV or playing with a child while reading this book.

Like I said earlier, this isn't my usual type of book but I was hooked and when I finished it I told everyone at work and at home that they just HAD to read it.  So, go out right now and buy or borrow this book.  Hopefully you will love it as much as I did.

Agent in Old Lace By: Tristi Pinkston

Shannon has the perfect life... she has a great family, a great job and the perfect boyfriend. Or so she thought...
On a date she finds out the Mark is not the man she thought he was, he has been stealing money from her father and making millions from it. When she learns his secret things go from bad to worse as he tries to kill her.
The FBI decides to give her 24 protection but when the agent is hurt and can't work their top field agent, Rick Holden, is given the job to protect Shannon, while disguised as her visiting aunt.
It seems life is getting back to normal and there is no word from Mark until her best friend is kidnapped. The only way to lure Mark out is for Rick to leave Shannon alone...
I actually really liked this book. Shannon is a strong female character and I couldn't imagion going through some of the trials she had in just the first few chapters. Rick is completly lovable and he instantly became the star of the book for me. His determination to protect Shannon by dressing up as her aunt, learning how to put on make-up and having quick changes from being a man to playing a woman was just great to read. I also liked the "FBI guys next door". You don't get to learn alot about them but they had some great one-liners.
This is a story with minor LDS undertones but I like that it doesn't completely monopolize the story.

Succubus Blues By: Richelle Mead

I enoyed this first book in the Georgina Kincaid series. Georgina is a Succubus living in Seattle. Her day job is an assistant manager in a local bookstore. She has the opportunity to meet her favorite author, Seth Mortensen, and slowly befriends him. Tragedy strikes the local immortal community and Georgina starts to investigate. Through her doings we get to meet great characters both mortal and immortal. I liked the supporting characters even though we don't get to know them all very well. There is a high demon (her boss), a high powered angel, an Imp, a few vampires that she hangs out with, a mortal that understands a lot about the immortal  world and a bunch of mortals that all blend together very nicely. This book had a few parts where I laughed outloud and I was honestly really anxious to find out the ending. This is a series that I can't wait to finish.

***Note to reader... Georgina is a Succubus so by default there are going a couple/few sex scenes.

Halfway to the Grave By: Jeaniene Frost

Meet Catherine (Cat) Crawfield.  At 16 years old her mother confessed that Cat was actually half vampire and that all vampires were evil demons.  She teaches herself to kill vampires and takes to the nightclubs as soon as she is able to kill the evil demons.  Because of her heritage she is gifted with special abilities that help her out, increased senses, speed, strength and she is immune to vampire mind control.  One night she is at a club and meets Bones (a completely swoon worthly vampire from England)  He about kills her before finding out that she is half vampire.  She is then offered a choice, she can die or work with him to catch and kill wanted vampires.  She decides to work with him and learn all she can about vampires.

Of course throughout the story Bones and Cat fall in love.  I love these two.  They are made for eachother in so many ways.  They work together so well and they go about flirting, killing vampires and trying to stop general evilness.  You meet a ton of great characters and I fell in love with all of them, even the bad guys.  This has become one of my favorite series of all time.

Pleasure Unbound By: Larissa Ione

Eidolon is a demon doctor that has set up the first ever demon hospital. Tayla is a slayer that has made it her mission to kill every demon that she comes across. After a fight with a demon she is taken to the hospital and put under the care of Eidolon, E for short. There is a passion between E and Tayla almost instantly.

Someone is hunting down demons and collecting their parts to sell on the black market. E thinks that the slayers are at fault and Tayla swears that they aren't so they team up to try and find the culprit. There is fighting, an explosion, some therapy, espionage and a ton of sex.

I liked this book.  The story was interesting and I how all of the characters came together at the end. This story doesn't completely end and has some loose ends.  I hope that the story is continued or at least the loose ends tied up in the rest of the series, I actually want to finish the story. All of the characters had cool powers and abilities.  I enjoyed way Larissa described the demons was great.  I could actually picture the leathery wings and claws.

The Shrew Untamed By: James Carter

James Carter sent me a coupon to download this book. I loved the original Taming of the Shrew and this story takes place about one year after Kate is married. I liked the idea of the story, you basically get a look into Kate and Biannca's married lives as well as a friend of Biannca's husband. There were some definately funny situations and I laughed out loud a couple times. I didn't like Biannca's relationship with her husband and the ending left me wondering where the story could go. I loved Kate and Petruchio's relationship and it played out perfectly in my mind. Overall I thought this was a good continuing story....

This book is scheduled for release on September 27, 2011

Waverly and Kieran are teenagers on the New Earth ship the Empyrean. They have been traveling through space on their way to colonize a New Earth. On the way they unexpectedly meet up with their sister ship and everything goes wrong. The girls are taken aboard the other ship, the New Horizon, and the boys are left on the Empyrean with engines down a radiation leak and the adults either dead or missing.

This story follows the points of view from Waverly aboard the New Horizon trying to help the girls escape and Kieran aboard the Empyrean as he takes over as actin Captain.

Overall I loved this book and I can't wait for the second book to come out so I can see more of a conclusion. Both characters have flaws and try to overcome while helping thos people younger than them. These children were placed in the worst situations possible and things didn't go well and it was nice to see that things were hard and didn't automatically work out.

What better way to start of my reviews then by half demon that slays vampires.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the idea of a part human-part demon girl slaying vampires. Along the way she meets up with Fang. He is a cute dog (that happens to be part hell hound) with the best personality. Some of his comments, yes he can talk but only to Val, were so hilarious and had me laughing out loud. Because of Val's talent at slaying vampires she joins up with a special police unit and is partnered up with Dan. Val and Dan make a great team on the job but are also pretty compatible on their down time. Both characters had flaws and it made me like them and actually care what was going to happen. I loved Dan's sister, Val's sister and especially Rick (step dad). I really didn't like the mom and how she couldn't look past the demon so see and love her own daughter. I did like that even though the mom was completely unreasonable (in the way she acted and the things she said to Val) Val didn't let it cripple her. She knew what she was and she was trying to find her place in the world. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
